October Dodgers Log: Dodgers starting pitching and offense hit rock bottom, get swept by Arizona Diamondbacks in NLDS Christian Lee, November 9, 2023April 22, 2024 Clayton Kershaw implodes in historic loss to Diamondbacks, ARI 11 – LAD 2, LAD trails 0-1: The D-Backs came out of the gate running in Game 1. The game started with a fly ball to centerfield that James Outman just completely missed. After that, the game spiraled out of control. Clayton Kershaw gave up 6 runs in the 1st inning, and only recorded 1 out. The Dodgers found themselves down 6 before getting a chance to hit. The Dodger offense was quiet all night, scoring just once on a 2 run triple from Will Smith, who was a bright spot for LA. Smith became the 3rd catcher in Dodgers postseason history with a triple in a postseason game. The D-Backs blew out the Dodgers, 11-2. Game 1 – 10/7/23 The Dodgers fail to cash in with runners in scoring position, fall behind 0-2, ARI 4 – LAD 2, LAD trails 0-2: Bobby Miller struggled, allowing 3 runs in the 1st inning. Miller didn’t even make it through the 2nd inning. The Dodgers bullpen pitched really well, but the offense went 1 for 6 with runners in scoring position in another brutal loss to Arizona. J.D. Martinez did homer, but LA has now lost 5 consecutive postseason games. Game 2 – 10/9/23 Dodgers get swept by D-Backs with another disappointing loss, LAD 2 – ARI 4, LAD loses 0-3: Lance Lynn started Game 3 for LA, with their season on the line. The offense struggled yet again. Lynn pitched 2 solid innings before imploding in the 3rd. The Diamondbacks launched 4 home runs in the 3rd inning off Lynn, becoming the 1st team to hit 4 home runs in a single postseason inning. The Dodgers tried to chip away late, hitting 4 consecutive singles in the 7th to cut the lead in half. Kike Hernandez was inserted into the starting lineup and went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Chris Taylor and Kike Hernandez singled in the only runs LA scored. Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman combined to go just 1 for 21 in the series. An absolutely unacceptable performance from LA’s top two players. The Dodgers season came to an abrupt end, getting swept in a postseason series for the first time since 2006.
