Shohei Ohtani is a Los Angeles Dodger Christian Lee, January 21, 2024April 22, 2024 Shohei Ohtani, regarded as one of the best players in MLB history, signed the largest contract in sports history. After a flurry of rumors over the past week, the 2018 Rookie of the Year, 3-time All-Star (2021-2023), and 2-time AL MVP (2021, 2023), signed with the Dodgers for 10 years at $700 million. Ohtani, the two-way phenom, hit a career-high .304, mashing 44 homers, and driving in 95 runs. Meanwhile, on the mound, Ohtani had a 10 and 5 record, while posting a 3.14 ERA. We have not seen such a talent since Babe Ruth. Ohtani is a one-of-a-kind player, and we will likely never see a player of his caliber again. Ohtani wanted to play for a team that could contend for a championship every year and the Dodgers were a perfect fit. Shohei joins a star-studded Dodgers lineup, as LA adds Ohtani to a lineup already featuring the runner-up for NL MVP in Mookie Betts and a third-place finisher in Freddie Freeman. The Dodgers are now one of the favorites to win the whole thing and will see if Ohtani is the missing piece to win the World Series in 2024.
