Dodgers Updates Christian Lee, June 3, 2024 Dodgers bullpen and bottom of the order struggle, Miller to IL, inability to hit with RISP cause huge losing skid for LA’s 9 game homestand, 4/12-4/21/24 SD 8 – LAD 7, L 10-6 (Final/11), 4/12/24: The Dodgers and Padres were off to blistering hot starts in the series opener, as both teams traded home runs in the early innings. In the 1st, Machado went deep for the Padres and Ohtani went yard for the Dodgers. In the 2nd, Kim homered for San Diego, but Muncy and Betts left the yard in the bottom of the frame. Teoscar Hernandez went yard in the 3rd. But LA blew a 7-3 lead in the later innings, as Tatis tied the game on a home run. Both teams failed to score in the 10th, but in the 11th, the Padres scored a run on an RBI single from Jackson Merrill, and the Dodgers failed to score again, as LA lost consecutive games for the first time this season. SD 2 – LAD 5, W 11-6, 4/13/24: The second game of the series took an odd turn before the game even started, as a rain delay pushed the game back for 2½ hours. But Gavin Stone was ready, pitching the best start of his young career. Stone was unrattled, maintaining his composure throughout. Stone took a perfect game into the 6th, and despite the benches clearing midway through the game, Stone fired 6 ⅔ innings with 4 strikeouts. The Dodgers offense did a much better job hitting with runners in scoring position tonight and the bottom of the order did a nice job setting the table for the top of the order. LA’s 7 through 9 hitters went 4 for 11, getting on base 5 times and scoring 1 run each. Mookie Betts drove in 2 runs on 2 RBI singles and Gavin Lux put LA up 2-1 with an RBI single. Ohtani and Muncy both hit sac flies as well. Evan Phillips shut the door as the Dodgers evened the series with the Padres at 1 game apiece. SD 6 – LAD 3, L 11-7, 4/14/24: The Dodgers pitching woes and defensive struggles continued, as LA dropped the three game series to the Padres. James Paxton walked 8 batters, the most by a pitcher in a game this season. On top of that, the bullpen and an error from Mookie Betts allowed the Padres to come back from a 3-1 deficit to take a 6-3 lead. LA’s only offense came off an RBi single from Will Smith and a 2 run homer from Max Muncy. The Dodgers will look to rebound tomorrow, as they will take on the Nationals for three games. WSH 6 – LAD 4, L 11-8, 4/15/24: The Nationals came into Dodger Stadium and took the win over the Nationals on Jackie Robinson Day. The Nationals jumped on Tyler Glasnow early and scored 6 runs against the Dodger ace. CJ Abrams and Luis Garcia homered as the Nationals went up 6-2. LA chipped away but weren’t able to come back. Ricky Vanasco did make his MLB debut for the Dodgers, pitching 2 innings with 1 strikeout. The Dodgers looked sluggish as a team and lost 6-4 on Jackie Robinson Day. WSH 2 – LAD 6, W 12-8: Andy Pages, the Dodgers 3rd best prospect was called up to make his major league debut. Pages hit the first pitch he saw into right field for his first career hit. Pages boosted the Dodgers bottom of the order, which had been a glaring weakness in the Dodgers roster. Kike Hernandez launched his first home run of the season as well. Mookie stayed hot, and had his third career 5 hit game! Kyle Hurt was called up and served as the opener for LA. Then Ryan Yarbrough came in and pitched the bulk of the innings. LA took a 6-2 win, bouncing back from the tough loss to tie the series at 1 game apiece. LA will look to win the series with the rubber match tomorrow. WSH 2 – LAD 0, L 12-9, 4/17/24: The Dodgers 13th ranked prospect, Landon Knack, made his MLB debut, starting the rubber match of this three game series against the Nationals. Despite a rough start, after allowing 2 runs in the 1st, Knack struck out 4 batters and finished the day going 5 innings. Unfortunately the offense didn’t show up. LA got shut out for the first time in 2024, and dropped the three game series to the Nationals. This marks a new low this season for the star-studded roster. Hopefully LA can rebound following a day off and get back on track against the Mets. NYM 9 – LAD 4, L 12-10, 4/19/24: The Dodgers losing skid continued as LA dropped the series opener to the Mets. Yoshinobu Yamamoto struggled in his fifth start of the season, allowing 3 runs over 6 innings. Yamamoto did strikeout 9, and 2 errors from the defense didn’t help. LA came back from down 4, scoring a run in the 4th and 5th, before tying the game at 4 in the 6th. Chris Taylor’s 2 run RBI single to tie the game was his first hit since March 31st, snapping his 0 for 30 skid. LA’s bullpen blew the game, allowing the Mets to cash in for 5 runs. LA has now lost 6 of their last 8 games, as their early season struggles continue. The Dodgers will look to tie the series tomorrow, and will need to in order to not drop their third series in a row. NYM 6 – LAD 4, L 12-11, 4/20/24: The Dodgers free fall continued as LA dropped their third series in a row. It is the first time since 2005 that the Dodgers have lost three consecutive series at home. Gavin Stone allowed a run to cross in the 1st but limited the damage to just 1. But LA’s bullpen allowed 3 more runs to score. The Dodgers defensive woes continued as a costly error allowed the Mets to score another run. The Dodgers also continued their struggles with runners in scoring position, either striking out or grounding out to kill any momentum they had. LA has lost 3 in a row, and 7 of their last 9 games. Hopefully the Dodgers can find a way to get out of this rut, as they will look to avoid getting swept for the first time this season. NYM 0 – LAD 10, W 13-11, 4/21/24: Although this homestand was one to forget for LA, the Dodgers capped off the series against the Mets with a dominant performance. Shohei Ohtani made MLB history, passing Hideki Matsui for the most home runs by a Japanese born player in MLB history. Then, in the 5th, the floodgates opened for LA, as the Dodgers scored 8 runs to take a 10 run lead. An RBI single from Betts, and RBI doubles from Freeman and Smith put LA up 7-0. Then, rookie Andy Pages hit his first career home run to give the Dodgers a 10 run lead. Meanwhile, Dodgers ace, Tyler Glasnow threw 8 shutout innings with 10 strikeouts to lead LA in the pitching department! Hopefully, LA can build on this huge win and carry this momentum on the road. Dodgers offense comes to life in sweep over Nats, series win over Blue Jays and D-Backs for 9 game roadtrip, 4/23-5/1/24 LAD 4 – WAS 1, W 14-11, 4/23/24: For the first time since April 9th, the Dodgers have won back to back games. LA’s offense was quite early but the pitching staff kept the team in it. James Paxton went 4 ⅔ innings, allowing just 1 run, while Grove, Vesia, Hudson, and Phillips shut out the Nats the rest of the night. Kike tied the game with a single in the 6th. The Dodgers finally jumped out to a lead with RBI hits from Outman and Rojas. Shohei capped off the night with a 450 foot blast to the second deck in Nationals park. Ohtani’s home run was 118.7 mph off the bat, which is the highest exit velocity by a player this season. LAD 12 – WAS 2, W 15-11, 4/24/24: The Dodgers offense combined for 20 hits in a blowout win over the Nationals. Six Dodgers had multi hit games. Betts, Ohtani, Freeman, and Lux all drove in 2 runs, and Andy Pages went yard for the second time this season. Mookie Betts and Will Smith both had 4 hit games tonight. Landon Knack cruised through the Nationals lineup in his 2nd career start, throwing 6 innings with 5 strikeouts, and notching his first career win. The Dodgers will look for a sweep of the Nationals tomorrow. LAD 2 – WAS 1, W 16-11, 4/25/24: The Dodgers completed the sweep over the Nationals with a narrow 2-1 victory. Teoscar Hernandez got the scoring started with a solo home run, his 6th of the year, to give LA the lead. Yoshinobu Yamamoto cruised for LA, going 6 scoreless innings with 7 strikeouts. Freddie tacked on an insurance run in the 8th to put LA up 2, which ended up determining the outcome of the game, as Daniel Hudson allowed a run in the bottom of the inning. But Evan Phillips came in and shut the door, as the Dodgers won their 4th consecutive game. LAD 12 – TOR 2, W 17-11, 4/26/24: Shohei and the Dodgers landed in Toronto and crushed the Blue Jays, scoring a season high 12 runs. Shohei continued his red hot stretch with his 7th home run of the season to give LA an early 1-0 lead. Then, the floodgates opened, as the Dodgers scored 6 runs in the 3rd. Freeman and Smith each singled in a run and Max Muncy broke it open with a 3 run bomb, his 5th of the year. Lux also singled in a run in the inning. The Dodgers scored a handful of runs following the inning on a home run from Will Smith, single from Muncy, an error, and sac flies from Pages and Smith. Gavin Stone had the best start of his career, throwing 7 innings, and striking out 2. All nine players in the starting lineup got a hit for LA. The Dodgers will look to win the series tomorrow, with Tyler Glasnow on the mound. LAD 4 – TOR 1, W 18-11, 4/27/24: The Dodgers just played a clean game on both sides to extend their winning streak to 6 games. The Dodgers scored most of their runs early, jumping on top 1-0 as Freddie brought Mookie home on a sac fly, following Mookie’s leadoff triple. In the 2nd, Chris Taylor and Shohei Ohtani each singled in a run to put LA up 3. Ohtani’s single was the hardest hit ball of his career, coming off the bat at 119.2 mph. In the 4th, Chris Taylor executed a sacrifice bunt to move Miguel Rojas to 3rd, and Mookie brought Rojas home on an RBI single. Evan Phillips came in and shut the door as the Dodgers took the series in Toronto. LAD 1 – TOR 3, L 18-12, 4/28/24: The Dodgers were unable to complete the sweep over the Blue Jays, as the offense struggled to hit with runners in scoring position. Michael Grove allowed 3 runs in the 2nd. The Dodgers had their chances to come back into this once, most notably in the 8th, when Austin Barnes worked a 10 pitch at bat and walked, and Mookie doubled to put runners on 2nd and 3rd with no out. But, Ohtani popped out with runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs, Teoscar struck out with the bases loaded with 1 out, and Muncy just missed a go-ahead, grand slam, flying out to end the 8th. LA went down in order in the 9th, as their 6 game win streak came to an end. LA will go to Arizona in a rematch of last year’s NLDS, to try to get their get back on the team that swept them in the Postseason last year. LAD 8 – AZ 4, W 19-12, 4/29/24: The Dodgers won the series opener over the Diamondbacks in unique fashion, not striking out a single time the whole game. This was the first time since 2006 that LA had done this. The Dodgers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but did most of their damage in the 5th, scoring 4 runs on 2 run doubles from Teoscar Hernandez and Andy Pages. Will Smith also homered for the 3rd time this year. James Paxton pitched 5 innings and Evan Phillips shut the door on another Dodgers win. LAD 3 – AZ 4, L 19-13 (Final/10), 4/30/24: The Dodgers lost a bizarre one in Arizona. The start of the game was delayed by almost 2 hours due to a bee delay. A huge colony of bees swarmed behind home plate and were eventually removed. The Dodgers offense didn’t do very much. LA tied the game on a wild pitch, and took the lead on a balk. But, Christian Walker came up in the bottom of the 10th and hit a walk-off home run, as the D-Backs tied the series at 1. LAD 8 – AZ 0, W 20-13, 5/1/24: The Dodgers wrapped up their 9 game road trip with a blowout win over the D-Backs. It was Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who stole the show in this one, going 6 shutout innings with 5 strikeouts. Meanwhile, the Dodger offense, who was without Shohei today, who got the night off, scored 5 runs in the 2nd, chasing Jordan Montgomery out of the game. Andy Pages launched his 3rd homer of the year, Austin Barnes doubled in a run, and Mookie singled in 2 more. In the 3rd, Will Smith launched his 4th homer of the year, and just missed what would’ve been his 5th of the year, later on. LA scored a pair of runs in the 7th on bases loaded walks. With the win, LA won the series, 2-1, over the D-Backs, LA will go back home to take on the Atlanta Braves. Dodgers return home, dominate Braves and Marlins for perfect homestand, Buehler makes highly anticipated return, 5/3-5/8/24 ATL 3 – LAD 4, W 21-13 (Final/11), 5/3/24: The Dodgers won the opener of a highly anticipated series with their first walk-off win in 2024. The Braves got on the board first, but Gavin Stone settled in, going 6 innings with 5 strikeouts. Meanwhile, the Dodgers tied the game in the bottom of the 3rd on an RBI single from Will Smith, and took the lead in the 4th, as Teoscar launched home run number 7 on the year. But the reigning NL MVP, Ronald Acuna Jr. tied the game with a solo shot in the 8th. Both teams were able to get the extra-innings runner home in the 10th. In the 11th, Michael Grove stranded the runner on 2nd, giving LA a chance to win. The Braves intentionally walked Muncy to get to Teoscar. Although he grounded into a forceout, LA had runners on the corners with Andy Pages coming up. Pages kept battling at the plate, and won the at-bat, hitting a single into centerfield, as LA walked off the Braves. ATL 2 – LAD 11, W 22-13, 5/4/24: Max Muncy led the Dodgers, in a blowout win over the Braves. The Dodgers offense exploded for 11 runs against one of the best teams in baseball. Max Muncy started the scoring with a 2 run bomb in the 2nd. In the 3rd, Shohei made more history, as his solo home run passed former Dodger, now skipper, Dave Roberts, for the most home runs by a Japanese born player in Dodger history. The Dodgers poured in 4 more in the 4th, as Andy Pages kept his hot streak going with a solo blast. Ohtani, Freeman, and Smith all singled in a run as well. In the 7th, Muncy went deep for the second time tonight and Mookie hit a bloop single to drive in 2 more. In the 8th, Muncy hit a fly ball the other way that just kept carrying, and ended up going over the wall for his third home run of the game! Meanwhile, Tyler Glasnow fired 7 innings with 10 strikeouts, continuing his dominant start to his Dodgers career. With the win, the Dodgers took the series over the Braves, and will look to sweep them tomorrow. ATL 1 – LAD 5, W 23-13, 5/5/24: The Dodgers completed the sweep over the Atlanta Braves with another impressive win. Shohei launched a 2 run bomb to start the scoring for LA. Then, in the 4th, Teoscar Hernandez broke the game open with his 2nd home run of the series to put LA up 4. In the 8th, Shohei came up and launched his 2nd homer of the game, marking his first multi home run game as a Dodger. Ohtani’s home run went 464 feet! James Paxton went 6 ⅔ innings with 3 strikeouts, allowing just 1 run. Blake Treinen made his long awaited return, appearing in a game for the first time in over a year and a half and pitched a clean inning. Michael Grove finished off the game, and we will now wait to see Walker Buehler’s highly anticipated season debut tomorrow. MIA 3 – LAD 6, W 24-13, 5/6/24: Walker Buehler made his highly anticipated return to the big leagues and the Dodgers launched 4 more home runs, winning the opener over the Marlins. Buehler started off the game rusty, but found his rhythm, striking out 4 in 4 innings. Meanwhile, Shohei continued his blistering hot stretch, launching his league leading, 11th home run of the season to tie the game at 2. Then, Freddie gave LA the lead with his 3rd of the year, going back to back with Ohtani. In the 2nd, James Outman put LA back on top with a 2 run bomb, showing a sign of life, hoping to break out of his slump. Teoscar also went deep, his 3rd of the homestand. The bullpen allowed just 1 baserunner over the next 5 innings, and LA won their 5th in a row. MIA 2 – LAD 8, W 25-13, 5/7/24: Yamamoto pitched the longest outing of his young career as the Dodgers extended their winning streak to 6 games. After falling behind by 1 early, Shohei, Freddie, and Will, got on base for Max Muncy. Muncy smashed one the other way for a grand slam, putting LA up 4-1 in the first. Muncy has left the yard 4 times on this homestand and 2 have gone the other way. The Dodgers struck for 4 more runs in the 3rd on a sac-fly from Pages and on a throwing error by the catcher. Gavin Lux also launched his first home run of the season, tacking on 2 more runs, as part of the 4 run inning. It was Lux’s first home run since 2022, after missing all of 2023 with an ACL tear. Yoshinobu Yamamoto continued to add to his stellar rookie season, firing 8 innings with 5 strikeouts. Yamamoto continues to look more comfortable on the mound, which is a great sign for LA. The Dodgers won this one 8-2, and will look for the sweep tomorrow. MIA 1 – LAD 3, W 26-13, 5/8/24: The Dodgers capped off a perfect homestand with the quickest game in 18 years, spanning just 1 hour and 55 minutes. Tyler Glasnow and Michael King both dominated on the mound for their respective teams. Glasnow was phenomenal for LA, pitching 7 innings with 10 strikeouts, allowing just 1 hit, which was a solo home run. But King was better, matching Glasnow’s performance with 7 shutout innings with 11 strikeouts. LA tied the game in the 8th on a sac-fly from Freddie, but San Diego got 2 hits in the 9th, as newly acquired Padre, Luis Arraez, walked off the Dodgers in his Petco Park debut. LA will look to tie the series tomorrow with James Paxton on the mound. LAD 5 – SD 0, W 27-14, 5/11/24: The Dodgers got back in the win column with their 3rd shutout win of the season. Freddie got LA on the board early with a solo home run. James Paxton was great for LA, with 6 shutout innings, and LA’s defense made some incredible plays. But the biggest play of the night came from Teoscar Hernandez. With the bases loaded, and behind in the count, 1-2, Teoscar crushed a pitch hanging over the plate, for a grand slam! The swing put the Dodgers up 5-0. The bullpen finished off the game, and LA tied the series at 1. LA will look for a series win tomorrow. LAD 0 – SD 4, 27-15, L 5/12/24: The Dodgers were shut down by Yu Darvish, as LA dropped their second series in a row to the Padres. LAD 6 – SF 4, W 28-15 (Final/10), 5/13/24: The Dodgers grinded out a win in San Francisco to win an exciting series opener. Mookie started the game off with a bang, launching his 50th career leadoff home run to get LA on the board early. However, LA fell behind on a 3 run homer from Luis Matos in the 2nd. But, the Dodgers chipped away, cutting the lead to 1 on an infield single from Shohei and a game tying double from Gavin Lux. Yamamoto was cruising, but allowed a run in the 6th, and was taken out, allowing 4 runs over 5 ⅔ innings with 6 strikeouts. Kike came off the bench and hit a huge home run to tie the game in the 7th. The game ended up going into extras, and Will Smith played hero in the 10th, knocking in 2 on a double. Muncy and Lux turned a double play to end the game, and LA got back into the win column with a back and forth win. LAD 10 – SF 2 , W 29-15, 5/14/24: The Dodgers added another win to their record, blowing out the Giants to seal another series win. After a quiet first 3 innings, LA scored 4 in the 4th. Shohei homered, sending one 446 feet to right-center. LA scored 3 more in the inning on a double from Teoscar, sac-fly from Muncy, and a triple from Lux. Hernandez ended up going 6 innings, allowing 3 runs. Teoscar was robbed of a homer in the 4th from Luis Matos, who made an incredible catch. The Dodgers lost 4-1, settling for a .500 roadtrip.
