Celebrating the Tigre Scholars: Honoring Excellence During National Hispanic Heritage Month Lupe Chacon, October 6, 2024 A Vital Part of Vistamar’s Community Since 2016, the Tigre Scholars Program has been a key part of Vistamar School, dedicated to supporting high-achieving Latino students. Starting with just four freshmen, the program has grown to graduate 20 scholars, with 18 more currently on campus. Funded and guided by a generous donor, the program goes beyond scholarships—providing mentorship, fostering pride in Latino heritage, and nurturing a deep love of learning. The donor continues to support Tigre Scholars beyond high school, connecting them with professionals in their fields, helping them become role models, and empowering them to make positive impacts in their communities and society at large. Under the leadership of Miss Chacon, Tigre Scholars are held to high standards that extend beyond those of typical Vistamar students. Scholars are required to maintain a 3.7 GPA, complete at least five AP and/or Honors courses, and meet regularly with an off-campus advisor. They also participate in test preparation and engage in required summer experiences starting after 9th grade, all closely supported by their advisor. These expectations reflect the demands of colleges that offer generous scholarships, which seek well-rounded, high-achieving students. Our current Tigre Scholars—Lunnah U., Ayana C., Maddie M., Angela M., Allison B.A., Ben J., Andrew A., Esme S., Roberto S., Valeria P., Bryan C., Sherly G., Emma S., Kevin H., Daniel D., Kevin B.A., Alanis S., and Jay C.—are making a meaningful impact on campus, leading by example, excelling academically, and enriching our school community with their dedication and drive. Vistamar is proud to host the Tigre Scholars, who embody our core value of “relentlessly embracing a diversity of thought and experience.” These students bring fresh perspectives and talents that enrich our school. The Tigre Scholars Program is more than just a scholarship—it’s a commitment to developing leaders and contributing members of our community. We look forward to celebrating their successes and supporting their journey. Arts & Culture Features School News
