Inside Vistamar’s Fall Play, The Crucible Lilah Schulte, November 9, 2023 Volume 19: Issue 2 Vistamar’s fall production of The Crucible will be running on November 9th, 10th and 11th. As part of the cast, I am looking forward to the opening day, reminiscing about the great memories we have made together and the hard work we have put into this production. To get ready for the opening day, I have interviewed some of the cast members and our director, Michael. Michael (Director): How would you describe the story of The Crucible in one sentence? It is about a group of women who are accused of being witches because they are defying what society is telling them. And, they are put on trial. How will the production of The Crucible be different from the other productions Vistamar has done in the past? Compared to the shows we did last year, I am trying to take more inspiration from the students, from set design, costume, lights, sound, and acting choices. You can see this on stage. What is your favorite part about directing plays? Specifically, what is your favorite part about directing The Crucible? The world building. Creating our own version of the story and not just copying what has been done in the past. With The Crucible, it is a play I have always wanted to do, and it falls in the theme of trust and who we put our trust in. I have always been interested in telling a story that we all know and can understand in a new way. Why should students come to watch The Crucible? One, for support, to see all the hard work put into the production. Two, to see this new, scary, and horror version of The Crucible. Three, to see a production of a play we read in class. Asha (Tituba, Giles Corey, Martha Corey, Witch # 2): Is this your first Vistamar production? Yes, this is my first. I am very excited about it. It is going to be a pretty good production! I can feel it. What is your favorite part about being a part of Vistamar’s fall play? The experience, for sure. Rehearsals are really fun. My castmates are all amazing people. I love hanging out with them. Overall, the experience was outstanding. What is your favorite memory from rehearsals? Oliver’s popcorn. I will not stop obsessing over that. Kara (Mary Warren): Is this your first Vistamar production? No, this is the 3rd one that I am acting in. Do you think you will audition for more Vistamar productions in the future? Definitely. Vistamar Theatre has a great community. I love being a part of the community. I will definitely audition for more plays. What is your favorite part about rehearsals? Laughing, the laughter you have with everyone. I love everyone in the show. They are all so amazing. It is so much fun. Jessica (Abigail Williams): What is your favorite part about being a part of Vistamar’s fall play? It is super fun doing the rehearsal process, and handing out with the cast. And, actually being able to get a role down when you memorize your lines is a good feeling. Do you think you will audition for more Vistamar productions in the future? Yes, definitely! I am planning to audition for the musical and I am planning on doing all three shows next year. What is your favorite part about rehearsals? Getting to know the cast and making jokes with the cast. Making new friends. Carina (Susanna Walcott, Ann Putnam, Ezekiel Cheever): Is this your first Vistamar production? Yes, it is my first production ever! What is your favorite part about being a part of Vistamar’s fall play? My favorite part is being able to hang out with everyone and meet new people. What is your favorite memory from rehearsals? Probably the scenes when everyone breaks out of character and starts laughing. Photo Credit: Jessica Tell Arts & Culture School News
