Christopher Nolan’s next anticipated film, The Odyssey

Winnie Terlecki, October 7, 2025

In 298 days, Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey will be released to theatres. The film is rumored to be Nolan’s most expensive project, with a reported budget of $250 million, likely one of the most expensive films made in history surpassing films such as James Cameron’s Avatar (2009) and Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises (2019). The Odyssey is shot solely on 70mm IMAX cameras and only screening in IMAX theatres. The tickets went on sale a year in advance on July 16, 2025, selling out within minutes. Fans are baffled at the resale prices to opening night ranging from $30-$500 depending on the theatre.

So, why the hype, you might ask? Here’s a book that virtually no one wants to read in high school. This is a book written in the 7th or 8th century BCE, in ancient Greek, that’s difficult to read and understand because the book is an epic written in poetry. Not to mention, this is a story written about Odysseus, a Greek hero and his 10 year journey home to Ithaca after the Trojan War. Why now? Why this story? Christopher Nolan is the reason. Nolan, featuring one of his most impressive casts in his discography, starring Matt Damon as Odysseus, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, and Jon Bernthal. With support from Mia Goth, Elliot Page, and Bill Irwin, they bring together one of Nolan’s strongest and most experienced casts. Nolan has brought to life so many influential films with his incredible cinematography such as Oppenheimer, Interstellar and The Dark Knight Rises. Hopefully, Christopher Nolan will bring The Odyssey to life and expand the audience to young people everywhere around the globe.
